Service-Learning @ Civility Music

What is Service Learning?

Service learning is a method of teaching, learning and reflecting that combines academic classroom curriculum with meaningful service, civic engagment and a process whereby students learn and develop through active participation in organized service experiences that actually meet community needs.

Civility Music invites students to join in on the fun by working to find solutions, while earning service-learning hours and helping to fund projects at the same time.

Service Learning @ Civility Music Philosophy

The Service Learning @ Civility Music program cultivates a sense of social and civic responsibility in students, and advances experiential aspects of the learning process. Service Learning is more than community service or volunteerism; done properly, it links education to service and service to learning.

Three main components:

  • Co-curricular activities focusing on outreach and long-term community building through partnerships.
  • Developing awareness of the needs, and the resources that can help meet those needs, within the greater Central Maryland METRO community.
  • Academic reflection on the process that creates a platform for a shared vision for service.
